Running’s Race Across Michigan

Michigan Running Club participates in Race Across Michigan, to support Special Olympics

The Michigan Running Club (MRun, for short) organizes an annual fundraiser every year called Race Across Michigan (RAM) to benefit Area 20 Special Olympics. The fundraiser culminates in a 190-mile relay across the state of Michigan, completed in under 24 hours.

“This year we had 45 runners participate in the relay, and have other members of the club who fundraise and volunteer with us, but do not participate on the day of. We often have families cheer us on if they live near the route, including my parents, who set up a snack station near my hometown in Kalamazoo. “, explained MRun Co-President Ashley Goodrich (Mechanical Engineering, 2025).

On March 22, 2025, MRun ran from Detroit to South Haven while raising $20,393 for the Special Olympics!

RAM Co-Coordinator Chelsea Harvey (Mechanical Engineering, 2026) shared, “We had tons of supporters along the way, including a fuel station with tons of snacks and hot beverages at a little past midnight. It was a really big “pick-me-up” as everyone was getting a bit sleepy, and we still had around 6 hours to go! There were also several churches along the route that allowed our runners to use their restrooms, which was really helpful”

Throughout the year, runners also volunteer at Special Olympics practices to build relationships with the athletes and foster community in sport. “My favorite part of RAM is volunteering at Special Olympics practices. Running across the state is plenty of fun but I’m especially grateful to be able to work so closely with so many young athletes and get to know them”, Evelyn Brodeur (Statistics, 2027), MRun Member and RAM Co-Coordinator.

‘MRun continues to support the Special Olympics year after year because as a club sport, we see the impact of athletics on ourselves, our teammates, and our community. We understand the importance of access to sport, and the Special Olympics continuously increases access to athletes of all abilities. We continue to support this mission because we fully believe in it and its importance.” MRun Co-President Mallory Moore (Sociology, 2025)
