You don’t need 1:1 personal training to get personalized results. With Small Group Training, you’ll join 2 to 5 other participants in a concentrated workout with a certified trainer or instructor. Your trainer/instructor will help you find success through this creative, fun and dynamic workout experience, making it the best value for your fitness dollar.
U‑M students and/or members of Recreational Sports can register online or visit one of our Welcome Centers to select and pay for one or more Small Group Training programs.

This beginner program introduces and refines the basics of ballet in a welcoming, non-competitive environment. You’ll learn basic positions, correct body alignment with both hands on the barre and basic ballet terminology, all while improving core strength, flexibility and posture. If you’ve always wanted to try ballet, sign up and give it a try!
This foundational program uses kettlebells to help you increase strength, cardiovascular endurance and overall fitness. You will master the foundational techniques of kettlebell movements (swing, clean and snatch) in order to optimize the use of kettlebells in your workout.
This class takes a systematic and holistic approach to promoting optimal back health and spinal alignment. Using alignment-based yoga, posture education, and mindfulness practices, this program will help reduce factors that aggravate back pain such as life stress, chronic tightness, as well as muscular weakness in other areas of the body. This program has been designed for both beginners to yoga and those with some prior experience.
Medical clearance is needed for those with back conditions/diagnoses.
If you’d like to improve your focus and engagement in day-to-day living and add greater self-awareness, this is the program for you. Little or no experience is required so it’s a great program for beginners or those who need to brush up on the fundamentals of alignment and mind-body awareness. You’ll learn about and practice different types of yoga as well as mindfulness practices that encourage wellness and resilience in all aspects of your life. At the conclusion of the program you’ll be ready to take your practice to the next level
Yoga and meditation are perfect complementary practices for running. In this training program, whether you run for hobby or sport, you’ll increase your enjoyment, enhance your motivation and improve your performance. Yoga will help you develop and maintain strength, flexibility, and balance; prevent injuries; and promote recovery. When practiced regularly, yoga can enhance your mental focus and breathing efficiency to a point where running may become a meditation in and of itself!
In this class you will gain comfort and confidence in your own body as a dancer as you learn and build upon basic hip hop routines. This wholistic class also includes warm-ups, stretching and core fusion exercises designed to engage your muscles important for dancing and to increase your flexibility. You will be challenged to push past your comfort zone in a supportive environment.
Take your kettlebell workout to the next level! In this progressive program, you’ll be introduced to a variety of training styles (such as ladders, circuits and high-intensity training) and unique progressions, movements and techniques, all under the watchful eye of a certified trainer. Be ready to have fun and work hard while you improve your body awareness, build strength and improve your cardiovascular fitness. Participants should be experienced in doing the swing, clean and snatch before joining this program.
This program is for anyone who has a foundation in yoga and would like to take their asana (physical) practice to the next level. Join us to challenge your physical capabilities while you practice mind-body awareness, breath control and mindfulness.
Your coach will take you through complex vinyasa flows and challenging poses, with concentration on a different “peak” pose each week. Yin poses, guided meditations and breathing techniques will be used to close each class. You’ll also receive weekly exercises to help increase your strength, stamina, balance and flexibility.
